Refreshing the google doc fixes this, but it's very annoying to have to do that every 5 minutes on days when Paperpile is deciding to act up. Sometimes Paperpile is really buggy and stops being able to find items when I'm trying to search for them to add a citation. Even putting aside the google docs feature, Paperpile has been overall much nicer to use than Mendeley, which was what I used before. I also appreciate the ease of use of being able to add papers with a couple of clicks from the journal website or from a page of google search results. The fact that it (mostly) works well with google docs is one of the main positives for me. However, there are some clear areas where it could be improved. I think your handwriting is already a very improved version and captures it well in the summary export. If you can include some slid features in handwriting and manipulation of PDF, that would attract almost any student with an iPad/Microsoft/Samsung/Android tablet. Currently with Apple pencil and other handwriting devices with or without e-Ink are capturing a major fraction of students, faculties as well as researchers in both academia and engineering such as computer science, manufacturing. I have a general suggestion for the design and aesthetic team. Lack of desktop app is very much desired. I like annotations, hand-written notes on pdf. I have stayed with Paperpile more many different reasons but, most importantly the promptness with which your team listens to our feedbacks and problems.
